Starwood Hotels & Resorts is one of the largest hotel and leisure entertainment groups in the world. In 1998, Starwood acquired Westin Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and several of its subsidiaries—including Westin and Westin Alliance—along with American International Telephone & Telegraph Company, which was renamed Sheraton Holding Corporation. In October 1999, Starwood acquired Vistana, Inc. (later renamed Starwood Vacation Ownership, Inc.).
