The film theme for this episode: Identity

“Someone is living my life, yet I know nothing about him.” This is a true portrayal of the protagonist in Pirandello’s novel “The Late Mr. Caspar.” The story follows Pascal as he abandons his identity twice in search of his “self,” ultimately returning to his own grave bearing fresh flowers to pay his respects.
The story is absurd yet profoundly thought-provoking: no matter how we flee from the past or shed our identities, we can never escape the chains that bind us within. Anxiety and fear are like a relentless punishment that follows us wherever we go. “Now I truly understand the meaning of death—no one misses me, not a single living person has ever thought of me. I am the late Pascal.”

The Merchant of the Four Seasons
"Four Seasons Merchant"

Hans, a former police officer, lost his job after being falsely accused by a prostitute. To make ends meet, this ambitious man was forced to become a fruit vendor. Unable to win the trust and approval of the parents of the woman he loved, Hans, now at the age when it’s time to start a family, ultimately married a woman named Irmgard.
Ever since he got married, Hans’s life had officially begun its downward spiral. Irmgard’s rough and impolite behavior only made Hans’s misfortunes even worse. Hans suffered a heart attack, and while he was hospitalized, Irmgard, left alone in the empty house, could no longer bear the loneliness and began an immoral relationship with Anzer. After being discharged from the hospital, Hans was no longer able to wander the streets selling fruit; instead, he set up a fruit stand. By chance, he ran into his war buddy Harry once again. Although Harry brought Hans a great deal of joy, he still couldn’t stop Hans from sinking further into despair.
